In Memory. We were so saddened this year to hear of the passing of Jose Alfonso Rodriguez in El Salvador this past Spring due to COVID-19. Our founder Michael and director of coffee Adam had just visited their beautiful farm in February 2020 and greatly value the connections made with Jose. It is with heavy hearts we share this lovely El Salvador offering from Finca Talquezalar.
Background: Coffee had been in Jose Alfonso Rodriguez’s family since he was a child. Founded 39 years ago, Finca Talquezalar is a 21 hectare farm located in La Palma, Chalatenango. Jose Alfonso learned coffee-farming from his father and had been working with coffee full-time for 15 years. His goal was to continue improving the cup quality of his coffee and experiment with unique growing and processing techniques while simultaneously continuing the coffee-farming traditions passed on by his father. While visiting the farm, Jose shared with us that all the farm workers and their families live on the farm. They were told as long as they were good stewards and tended the farm they could live there for free.
