We love this coffee from Finca El Aguila produced by our dear friend and longstanding direct trade partner Ricardo Ariz. Ricardo’s beautiful farm, located in Chalchuapa near the Santa Ana Volcano, is literally up in the clouds and the attention and detail paid to their coffee production is evident in the cup. A portion of El Aguila is devoted to the production of SL-28, the coveted varietal that is responsible for so many of the great coffees coming out of Kenya. We love that this coffee displays characteristics of both countries—Kenya notes-think berries and tart black currant-mixed with notes common from high quality El Salvador coffees-think floral, orange, and caramel. It’s a beautiful example of the melding of varietal and origin, creating a distinct and lovely cup of coffee.
