Coffee Story

Our Rwanda Kivubelt Lot 32 is sourced from family owned farms organized around Kivubelt Coffee-owners of several farms and a mill located in the Nyamasheke district of Rwanda. Rwanda native Furaha Umwizey established Kivubelt in 2008 after returning from Switzerland where she earned her master's degree in economics. Kivubelt currently cultivates coffee on three farms and also sources coffee from 600 neighboring small producers, who deliver cherry to the Murundo mill where the coffee is depulped, fermented, washed and dried. Kivubelt helps local producers improve quality and returns profits directly to the producers who deliver coffee to the Murundo mill. Furaha has also dedicated Kivubelt’s earnings to funding healthcare for more than 200 local residents.

Coffee Review

92 pts      Aroma: 8     Acidity: 8  Body: 9    Flavor: 9    Aftertaste: 8

Blind Assessment: Richly sweet-savory, spice-toned. Baker’s chocolate, spice box, narcissus-like flowers, almond, peach in aroma and cup. Savory-sweet structure with gentle, round acidity; full, syrupy mouthfeel. The crisp finish centers on notes of baker’s chocolate and almond with a hint of sweet flowers.

The Bottom Line: A classic Rwanda cup: deeply sweet yet resonant with savory intrigue. Think cocoa-toned baking spices.
