Coffee Story

Same coffee (Gesha 1931 varietal) from the same area of the farm (Narsha farm section) processed two ways-one natural process and one washed process.  Hailing from the Gesha Village Coffee Estate in Ethiopia, this paired set features the sole washed Gesha offering from the 2019 Pride of Gesha auction and it's sister lot, Gesha Village Lot #85 Natural. Don't miss out on this exceptional coffee experience! *Special roast date is Thursday Nov 7.

Gesha Village Lot #85 Natural: This coffee is intensely floral (think jasmine and wisteria) with multi-layered complex fruit notes including raspberry, peach, and pineapple. Coffee Review says: "The resounding, flavor-laden finish is both deeply floral and richly sweet-tart. An exquisitely clean natural-processed Gesha cup from Ethiopia, elegantly structured and confidently aromatic."

Gesha Village Auction Lot #11 Washed: Sparkling with prolonged floral notes, orange blossom, watermelon and lemon zest, this coffee is definitely a must try. Coffee Review says: "Exhilarating, bright, balmy: like drinking a spring day..."

*Please note: this release has a special roast date of Thursday Nov 7. Coffee is sold as a set. All other coffees ordered in conjunction with these coffees will also ship Thursday Nov 7.

About Gesha Village. In western Ethiopia near the South Sudanese border lies Gesha Village Coffee Estate, a 471 hectare coffee farm built by Rachel Samuel (born in Ethiopia), Adam Overton and coffee-great Willem Boot. The one-of-a-kind Gesha Village Coffee Estate is located in close proximity to the renowned Gori Gesha Forest, known as Gesha's birthplace and site of the Panamanian Gesha discovery in the 1930s.

Farm Beginnings. The Gesha Village founders spent months searching for just the right location-with high elevation, ample rainfall, ideal climate- to launch their coffee farm. Once they found their location, the team harvested seed selection of wild Gesha plants from the Gori Gesha forest and spent months transforming their remote piece of land into a working coffee farm capable of producing some of the world's best Gesha coffee. Once disconnected from the global specialty coffee market, Western Ethiopia is now on the map as home to Gesha Village Coffee Estate and the team continues to focus on their mission of revival, community, and innovation.

Coffee Review

Gesha Village Lot #85 Natural:

95 pts      Aroma: 9    Body:    Flavor:   Acidity/Structure: 9    Aftertaste: 9

Blind Assessment: High-toned, multi-layered, intriguingly complex. Wisteria, pineapple, myrrh, cocoa nib, pink grapefruit zest in aroma and cup. Richly sweet-tart structure with vibrant, juicy acidity; crisp yet syrupy mouthfeel. The resounding, flavor-laden finish is both deeply floral and richly sweet-tart.

The Bottom Line: An exquisitely clean natural-processed Gesha cup from Ethiopia, elegantly structured and confidently aromatic.

Gesha Village Auction Lot #11 Washed:

94 pts      Aroma: 9    Body:    Flavor:   Acidity/Structure: 9    Aftertaste: 8

Blind Assessment: Subtly and sweetly intense: flowers and cocoa. Lavender, cocoa, honey, candied nut, lemon zest, much more in aroma and cup. Richly and sweetly pungent in structure; light though plush and satiny in mouthfeel. A quiet, layered finish consolidates around lemon and lavender.

The Bottom Line: Exhilarating, bright, balmy: like drinking a spring day with a cocoa chaser.
