Coffee Story

Coffee Story

“Burundi is truly a place where coffee trade done well can positively impact the lives of many who otherwise suffer from the constant certainty of unrest.” -Royal Coffee

For several years, Royal coffee has been working with Burundi native Salum Ramadhan, who operates several washing stations in the Kayanza growing region. Ripe coffee cherries are delivered to the washing stations from thousands of producers who cultivate and harvest from just a few hundred coffee trees. Each lot is classified through a strict protocol including hand sorting and floating the cherry. The cherries are gently dried on raised beds until the moisture reaches 11 percent. Salum pays farmers well above the government minimum set for coffee cherry and tirelessly works within his community and area schools to improve on social issues.
