ASOPCAFA Colombia

Coffee Story

Coffee Story

Our ASOPCAFA Colombia hails from Huila, a region with little economic opportunities that has been greatly impacted by prolonged violence between the FARC guerillas and the Colombian government. Founded in 2012 by Jorge Emilio and a group of 24 farmers, ASOPCAFA formed to find better outlets for their coffee and to leverage their collective power. They acquired Fair Trade and Organic certifications and instituted in-depth training programs for contributing farmers. Composed of 84 members, 17 of them women, ASOPCAFA farmers mill and dry their own coffee with their own small scale wet mills and African-style raised beds. Operating a lab in Aipe, ASOPCAFA offers farmers and their children educational opportunities in agronomy and coffee cupping. Always with an eye on the future, ASOPCAFA also offers local children age 5-12 free courses on planting, pruning and maintaining coffee trees with a special focus on environmental sustainability. Coffee grown here boasts ideal soil and climatic conditions, enabling ASOPCAFA farmers to produce amazing cups appreciated by roasters and coffee drinkers alike.
